When you install a new hard drive it reads as less than the actual GB.
e.g I have a 750GB Western Digital sata hard drive that is completely empty of all data, but it reads at 698GB. There is no operating system or any type of data on it. That is how it read immediately after I installed the drive.
I just want to know if I will get the full 8 GB, or will it read as less after you plug it in the USB port assuming there is no data on the flash drive. Please help me decide thank you.
Thank you all for the intelligent answers. So if I have an 8GB file would it be wise to get a 16GB flash drive or would the FAT32 filing system bar me from putting a large file on the usb flash drive because of the size? Just curious. Again thnx!

USB flash drives are NAND-type flash memory data storage devices. And the modern flash drives have a USB 2.0 connectivity but doesn’t use the full 480 Mbit/s due to the technical limitations inherent in NAND flash. What are the limitations in the NAND flash?

Hello, Im aware that some of the newer versions of Windows have an option for a usb flash memory stick to be used as extra memory.
Based upon this, with the proper controller/IC, could the ram be used as external usb 2.0 ram at a speed of 380-420Mbps?

I purchased a Toshiba Satellite 1105 laptop from Good Will Community Foundation a few months ago and it has a power on and BIOS password. I have tried the Parallel dongle and it doesn’t work. There is a USB key that will reset the password but it is 0 and that is more than the laptop is worth to me. Is there any way i can make this USB security access key? Thanks in advance.
