ATP Offers New Mobile Flash Card/USB Drive Combo Products

ATP Electronics, Inc., a leading manufacturer of digital media products, today announced a new lineup of USB products which feature both USB pen drive and USB card reader functionality. Packaged with a flash memory card, the result is a complete storage solution for mobile users, allowing for the same storage device to be directly accessible by both mobile phones and by any USB host device or laptop. With units either supporting miniSD, microSD, or MMCmicro cards, the lineup offers a solution for most mobile handsets on the market today with removable memory card slots.

Each unit includes both a flash memory card and a USB enclosure/reader. With the memory card inside the USB enclosure, you have a fully functional USB pen drive, whereas outside the USB enclosure, you have a normal flash memory card fully usable by its compatible host devices.

“Although the multimedia and business functionality of mobile phones continues to grow, the reality is that most mobile users still have their data and multimedia files isolated on their phones away from their laptops and desktops. All three USB products are fully compatible with USB specifications version 1.1 and 2.0, fully supporting both USB high speed mode (480Mbps) and USB standard speed mode (12Mbps). They also support Hot Plug & Play, which enables you to install and uninstall without the need for a reboot.

An Open Source SDK (see http://www.ztex.de/firmware-kit/index.e.html) is available for rapid development of Firmware and host Software. It supports

    FPGA configuration / programming via USB (No JTAG adapters or other additional utilities required.),
access to EEPROM and Flash memory,
FPGA configuration / programming from Flash memory,
and contains many examples.

The SDK package consists in three parts:

The Firmware Development Kit for the EZ-USB microcontroller allows to specify all required settings (e.g. Endpoint configuration) by a few macro commands. The necessary USB descriptors and the descriptor handling routines are generated automatically.

The host Software API is written in Java and allows the development of platform independent host software. The access to the devices using other programming languages is easily possible using the libusb library.

The examples section contains a lot of examples, e.g. for accessing the DDR SDRAM using the hard memory controller included Spartan 6 and an example of the implementation of a fast USB 2.0 interface.
